Me Gusta Interview +

Me Gusta is made up of two best friends Sean Richards and Dominic Lopez, both San Jose natives. I got in touch with them threw twitter and got the chance to do an interview with them via email.

Q. Glad to see some good music coming from the Bay Area. Are you guys born and raised here? Fill us all in.
A. Thanks for the props. Glad to hear that you're enjoying the music. Both of us were born and raised in San Jose, CA.


Q. What truly has inspired your work?
A. Our work is inspired by a lot of things...music movies, art, nature, animals, etc. Some of our musical influences are J Dilla (RIP), Daft Punk, Frank Zappa, Diplo, Madlib, Vangelis, Gorgio Moroder, and Justice. As for movies, we enjoy Kung Fu, Horror, and Science Fiction stuff. Also anything with Nicholas Cage. ha. Our favorite animals are sharks, wolves, and cats.

Q. Where do you want your music to take you?
A. First and foremost, we create our music in order to help release our creative energy. We feel that our tracks are an extension of ourselves, reflecting all the different things that we feel, enjoy, and want to share with others.
We want our music to take us to new and positive places, allowing us as much creative freedom as possible. All of our hard work and production has pushed us to over half a million plays thus far, and with new listeners every day, it seems that we're steadily moving towards a better place each and every day.


Q. Have you guys done any shows? Any upcoming shows I should keep an eye out for?
A. We actually havent done any shows thus far, but we're definitely planning on that. 2009 is going to be a great year for us, and getting live is one of our biggest goals. It will happen when the time is right, and when that time comes...things are sure to be crazy.


Q. How did you two guys meet up and create Me Gusta?
A. We met up a while ago in High School. I (Sean) was good friends with Dominic's brother and once we started talking, we got along really well. Dominic and I seemed to go together really well and there's always been some sort of ying and yang element going on between us. We created Me Gusta over Spring Break last year when Dominic asked me if I wanted to make some beats with him. We had his family iMac hooked up to boombox and started making some tracks. Liu Kang was our first song together.
We both agreed that Me Gusta was a proper, catchy, and simple artist name, so we went from there.


Q. Is there anything you guy's would like to say to the visitors of Sick and Unusual?
A. I'd like to say thank you for checking out this interview and supporting us. Our fans are what keep us producing and doing our thing. Without them, we would be nowhere. We feel lucky to have people that enjoy our creativity and hope that they'll continue to listen to our music and support us. Big Ups to everyone! New music coming to your ears soon!
